Cheap vs. Steep: Studded Faux Leather Jacket

September 28, 2009 · 3 Comments

The item: The faux leather jacket is back again this fall/winter. This time, its been toughened up with more detailed “moto” styling (check out the shoulder epaulets and zippers at the wrists).

The contenders:
CHEAP ($47.80)

vs. STEEP ($148)

Let’s get ready to rumble!

Okay, the two jackets are, on the computer screen very similair. They both feature stud detailing on the lapel and zipper detailing on the wrists and pockets. The pockets are even in the same location. What you can’t see on the picture is that the STEEP jacket has significantly more studs (or maybe grommets?) on the back. Click on it to see. Personally, I find these pretty ugly. Also, the cut of the two jackets is different. The CHEAP jacket has a simple cut that is narrower at the waist. The STEEP jacket has a boxier cut, which I suppose is more true to the motorcycle styling. BIG DIFFERENCE: The STEEP jacket is about 5.5 inches longer than the CHEAP one. I don’t really like cropped or shorter jackets. So, for me, this is important. Is it worth an extra $100? Hmm…

MY VERDICT: I will admit that, if money was no object, I would prefer the STEEP jacket. The design is edgier and more in line with my style. HOWEVER, it is not worth $100 to me. Both jackets are very cute, and the CHEAP one still has plenty of edge. CHEAP WINS THIS BATTLE.

Fashion and Style: Ankle Booties

Chinese Laundry New Castle. These are my favorite. I saw them at Macys the other day....still debating if I should get em. I really wanted brown booties...but these only come in brown suede.

Chinese Laundry New Castle. These are my favorite. I saw them at Macy's the other day....still debating if I should get 'em. I really wanted brown booties...but these only come in brown suede. I hate suede.

Teen vogue (and others) said they were OUT, but they have been EVERYWHERE so far this fall, and it looks to me they are here to stay for at least the rest of the season. Even if they weren’t trendy, I’d still love ‘em, they are toooo cute and really versatile. And they don’t have the intimidating nature that those over the knee boots have.

Go ahead and kill me.

September 15, 2009 · 3 Comments

Yeah, I haven’t posted in a month. Funny thing is, this site was the busiest when I wasn’t posting. I’m back in school, busy with crazy work, life, my stupid emotions blah blah blah. I still want to continue this somehow, but how? What is there left to discuss? Anyway, this WAS a summer makeover site. How do I transition it into a year-round “How to be ‘cool’” site. Would that even be worth it? Would anyone read it? IDK, I really enjoyed this, but I can’t say for sure that “I’m back!!!” We shall see.

Cool and Easy DIY Circle skirt

August 12, 2009 · 2 Comments

I recently decided to pursue my love for crafts that began in preschool. Anywhoo, while browsing the web for an easy project to try I found this video on Threadbanger. It tells you  how to make this 50’s style bathing suit which is way too hard for me. It also has instructions for a scarily simple circle skirt. All you need is a sheet, scissors, sewing machine and measuring tape. I’m gonna try it soon and I’ll tell you how it worked out.
